Katie Whitaker
If money was not a factor what would you build, where and why?
I would build a beautiful home for my family on acres of land near a large body of water here in the Colorado mountains. Our home would have a large kitchen (or two) to accommodate my love of cooking and baking with a large deck and land for a garden so I could grow my own food. It would also have a large mother-in-law suite detached so our family and friends could spend time with us. I would also build a ranch style beach house in Southern California with a large deck. My husband, son and I visit there every year and would love a place to call home while we are there. I would also build a large garden at this beach house to grow fruits that don’t fare well in Colorado.
What do you work toward in your free time?
In my free time I love to cook, bake and garden (when the weather permits) with my son. He is currently four and loves to learn, taste and try new things. I remember cooking and baking with my mom and grandma and I want my son to remember these things with me. My favorite thing to do is feed people. To see someone taste and enjoy what I have made brings me joy. My husband and I enjoy working together improving our home. We remodeled our entire first home together inside and out before we sold it and purchased our new home. Our most recent project was building a custom front porch (with the help of my dad). My husband, son and I are very close with my parents and we all love to spend time with them. Spending quality time with my family is one of the most important things to me.
What’s the most interesting thing about you we would not learn from your resume?
I used to write editorials in newspapers and magazines under a pen name through High school and College.
