Our Story
Nested was founded in 2016, but our story really began back in 1999 at The Great Indoors. Rebecca was amazed by the concept of a one-stop shopping experience. The Great Indoors provided an opportunity for clients to select every product for their home and then have it designed and professionally installed. It was convenient and hands-on – two things people value even more so now. Unfortunately, the antiquated Sears system did not allow for the fluidity of a creative remodel or build process. It also lacked the ability to extend into architecture and full house design. That’s when she realized there was a gap in the market that she was well positioned to fill.
John and Rebecca met at The Great Indoors – he was one of their original General Contractors and she was one of the first designers. Of all the installers, his attention to logistics and design details stood out. Early on, he and Rebecca found that their perspectives and dedication to clients aligned. They formed a partnership and were extremely successful as a team, planning and executing difficult designs and installations.
The pair continued to work side by side throughout the following years as Rebecca moved into design/project management as their installation manager, overseeing 40 designers and more than 500 sub-contractors. While those experiences were critical for learning additional skills and collaborating with other designers, Rebecca still hadn’t acted on her ultimate vision of a design/build showroom.
In 2004, an opportunity arose to help a new showroom open in the Park Meadows area, Kitchens by Wedgewood; a small, local, family-owned cabinetry showroom and cabinet shop. Over the next decade, Rebecca watched a small showroom grow and adapt; they withstood The Great Recession of 2008 and came out stronger and more knowledgeable as a result. It gave her a window into how to run a small business and – most importantly – it reinforced the benefit of a showroom. In the meantime, Rebecca was also designing several new homes and large-scale buildings throughout Vail and Telluride. Her vision grew stronger as she developed relationships with clients, architects, engineers and prominent contractors.
By 2013, Rebecca left Kitchens by Wedgewood and was ready to set out on her own. At the time, John and his daughter, Katie, were open to the idea of transforming their company, Millholl Custom, and joining forces with Rebecca. He and Rebecca began discussing how to integrate their two teams. In 2016, Nested was born: a full turn-key service with architecture, design, estimation, material selection, and installation serving greater Denver and the Front Range.
As our team came together, we began noticing some common mistakes in the industry, which seemed to be rooted in two main causes. Despite having a wealth of knowledge, many building companies have limited operational and administrative expertise, which causes budgetary issues for builders and clients alike. Our administrative team was created with corporate functionality at the forefront, in order to maintain a professional and sophisticated operation. Secondly, there seemed to be a disconnect between design and construction. This is where design/build brings a significant advantage. With designers and builders under one roof, we drastically improve collaboration and communication with the shared goal of bringing a client’s vision to life. It simplifies the process and reduces stress for everyone involved. By bringing operational protocols, processes and procedures together with attention to detail and the personal touch of a small, locally- woman owned business, we’re able to provide high-end service from concept to construction.
Our team follows a comprehensive design and estimation phase to fully understand our clients’ visions – from the overall floorplan to the smallest of details. Our designers will work with you from conceptualization to final touch up to ensure that your vision comes to fruition. We also cater to clients by allowing them to be involved in as much or as little of the design as they’d like. Clients can be hands on in selecting materials with our designers, or they can sit back with confidence and approve selections and designs as needed. Once projects are ready for bidding, our estimating team works tirelessly to develop a thorough scope of work and plan set. They’re versed on building regulations, IRC residential codes, and specific city and state jurisdiction requirements, including inspections and testing for hazardous materials like asbestos and lead-based paint.
After finalizing the scope and design, a project manager works directly with our clients to coordinate, execute and quality check every aspect of the project. Our experienced project managers keep our clients updated through an app called Buildertrend, a phone application where clients can communicate with the project manager, find important documents and be privy to subcontractor scheduling and project progress. At the end of the project, our in-house punch list and cleanup team ensures a final product that exceeds expectations.
Nested provides a 2-year warranty, which exceeds the traditional 1-year warranty of the building industry and the entire process is completed by a far more specialized and diverse administrative team than what you’ll find among other companies in the industry. Nested Design + Build provides an extraordinary level insurance, sophistication, peace of mind, security, and protection compared to our competitors.
Our team tackles projects from powder bathrooms and decks to luxury full-home construction. We strive to simplify the complex and often frustrating process of design and construction through transparency, partnership and communication with our clients, and as a result, we provide a construction process unlike any other. We are a women owned company, love what we do, and we hope that shines through in our process and our final products. Let’s talk.
